Tiffany Rhea, a 27-year-old woman from Akron, Ohio, tragically lost her life on January 22, 2020. She was fatally shot in the torso during a confrontation with Tyree Omenai, a 26-year-old man from Akron. The incident occurred in the area of Eastland and Bethany avenues. Rhea was a passenger in a vehicle when she exited the car and engaged in a verbal altercation with Omenai.
Omenai allegedly brandished a handgun and fired multiple shots, striking Rhea.
Following the shooting, Omenai was arrested and charged with murder and aggravated robbery. Detectives developed information linking Omenai to Rhea's death, and he was booked into Summit County Jail. The investigation revealed that Omenai had initiated a robbery attempt, and during the struggle, he fired the shots that killed Rhea.
In August 2022, a Summit County jury convicted Omenai of murder, along with other charges including aggravated robbery and having weapons under disability. Additionally, Tyler Johnson, who was present during the incident, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter. The court proceedings highlighted the tragic circumstances of Rhea's death and the legal consequences faced by those involved.
Rhea is remembered by her family and friends, including her son Jaylen and her fiancé John Armstead. Her passing left a significant void in the lives of those who knew her, and her memory continues to be honored by her loved ones.
