The case garnered significant attention, and a Lucas County common pleas court jury eventually found Mitchell not guilty of murder and one count of felonious assault, ruling that he acted in self-defense. However, Mitchell was convicted of another count of felonious assault for firing additional shots after the altercation. He was sentenced to six to twelve years in prison for the assault and weapons charges.
