On October 30, 2020, Brandon Williams, a 26-year-old man from Columbus, Ohio, was tragically killed in a shooting incident on Colton Road in south Columbus. The incident occurred when a black car collided with a blue pick-up truck in a driveway, leading to an argument between the drivers. The driver of the pick-up truck, identified as 44-year-old Robert Muncy, shot Brandon Williams during the altercation.
Williams was pronounced dead at the scene.
Robert Muncy, the suspect in the case, fled the scene but was later arrested behind Buckeye Middle School. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment before being booked into the Franklin County jail on a murder charge. It was revealed during the investigation that Williams and Muncy knew each other, and the shooting was not merely over the car accident but involved deeper personal issues.
During the court proceedings, Stephanie Ramirez, Williams' mother, testified that Muncy had been abusing her, and her son was trying to protect her when the incident occurred. Muncy pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter on September 12, 2023, to avoid a trial on murder charges. He also pleaded guilty to a domestic violence charge for an incident involving Ramirez on July 2, 2020. As a result, Muncy was sentenced to an indefinite prison term of 10 to 15 years.
