Zy'Keera N. Townsend, a 17-year-old girl from Lima, Ohio, tragically passed away on April 13, 2021, at 10:40 AM due to a very unfortunate situation. She was attending Elida High School and Apollo Career Center and was on track to receive her nurse aid certificate. Zy'Keera was known for her positive and loving spirit, always bringing a smile to those around her.
She enjoyed painting, doing her makeup and hair, and watching anime.
The incident occurred at a residence on Scott Road in Union Township, Van Wert County. Zy'Keera was shot, and despite immediate medical attention, she was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect, a young individual whose name and age have not been released, was quickly apprehended in the village of Scott after fleeing the scene. The suspect is facing charges of murder, attempted murder, and felonious assault. The case remains under investigation by the Van Wert County Sheriff's Office.
Zy'Keera is survived by her family, including her parents, siblings, maternal grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Her funeral services were held on April 20, 2021, at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services in Lima, Ohio.
The community continues to mourn the loss of Zy'Keera, remembering her as a bright and loving young girl whose life was cut short too soon.
