Christion Travonn Blackburn, a 26-year-old African American man from Detroit, tragically passed away on June 13, 2021, in Akron, Ohio. He was a forklift operator at the Dollar General Warehouse in Zanesville and was a member of the “Blak Sail” car club. Christion is survived by his mother, Virginia Page, his stepfather, Steven Nutter, his son, Jaxon Blackburn, and several siblings.
On the morning of June 13, 2021, Christion was found in a driveway in the 800 block of Hazel Street in
Akron with an apparent gunshot wound to the neck. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The police arrived at the scene around 3:40 a.m. and discovered that the shooter had already fled. Detectives believe the shooting erupted amid a dispute in the driveway, but the exact circumstances and a description of the shooter are still under investigation.
An Akron man, Tre’Vierre Johnson, 18, was later identified as a suspect in the shooting. Johnson surrendered to the police on June 17, 2021, and was taken into custody without incident. He was booked on a murder charge and taken to the Summit County Jail. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the full details of the altercation that led to Christion's death.
Christion's death has deeply affected his family and friends, who have been mourning the loss of a beloved son, brother, and father. Funeral services were held on June 18, 2021, at the Upper Room Assembly in Coshocton, Ohio, with Pastor Stan Braxton officiating.
