Marcus Payne, a 27-year-old African American male from Columbus, OH, tragically died on September 11, 2021, from injuries sustained in a shooting incident that occurred on August 30, 2021. Payne and his brother, Mark Payne, had confronted a group of individuals they suspected of breaking into their car. During the confrontation, one of the suspects allegedly pulled out a gun and fired, hitting Marcus Payne in the head.
Payne was driven to Grant Medical Center by his brother but succumbed to his injuries 12 days later.
The Columbus Police Department's Homicide Unit took over the investigation, but as of now, the case remains unsolved. Payne's mother, Victoria Landrum, has been vocal about seeking justice for her son and has urged anyone with information to come forward. Despite efforts from the family and the police, no arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
