Anthony W. Pemberton, a 48-year-old man from Kitts Hill, Ohio, tragically died on December 9, 2021, from a gunshot wound to the leg. The incident occurred in Ironton, Ohio, along County Road 7D. Pemberton was found unresponsive in the driveway of his home and was later pronounced dead at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
The suspect in the shooting, Aaron K. Scott, a 35-year-old man from Ashland, Kentucky, turned himself in to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office on December 13, 2021.
Scott was considered armed and dangerous at the time of his arrest. According to witnesses, Scott and Pemberton had an altercation in the driveway, during which Scott pulled out a handgun and shot Pemberton in the leg. Scott then fled the scene in a black Nissan Altima.
Law enforcement authorities obtained a murder warrant for Scott’s arrest and conducted an extensive search for him. The Boyd County Kentucky Sheriff’s Office and Lawrence County Detectives found Scott’s vehicle and confiscated it for evidence processing. Scott was arraigned on a first-degree felony murder charge on December 14, 2021, and his bond was set at $500,000 cash or surety. The case was referred to the Lawrence County Grand Jury for further consideration.
The investigation into Pemberton’s death is ongoing, and authorities continue to seek any additional information that may help in the case.
