Jennifer Morgan, a 49-year-old woman from Bucyrus, OH, tragically died on May 18, 2022, from a gunshot wound to the head. She was the home care coordinator for the Crawford County Council on Aging. The incident occurred at her residence on W. Mansfield Street, where her husband, Anthony J. Morgan, 52, was present. According to the preliminary investigation, Anthony Morgan recklessly discharged his firearm, striking Jennifer in the head. Emergency responders treated Jennifer at the scene and transported her to Avita Health System-Bucyrus Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Following the incident, Anthony Morgan was arrested and charged with reckless homicide, a third-degree felony. The Crawford County Prosecutor’s Office and the Bucyrus Police Department conducted a thorough investigation with the assistance of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office – Bureau of Criminal Investigation and both the Crawford and Lucas county coroners’ offices. Anthony Morgan's bond was set at $250,000 during his arraignment.
In June 2023, Anthony Morgan pleaded guilty to the charge of reckless homicide. Crawford County Common Pleas Court Judge Sean Leuthold sentenced him to six years in prison, with three years for the homicide charge and three years for the firearm specification. The judge also ordered Morgan to surrender two firearms, a magazine, and ammunition. During the court proceedings, friends and family members of Jennifer Morgan expressed their grief and called for justice.
