Jacob S. Scoby, a 30-year-old man from Xenia, Ohio, tragically died on May 26, 2022. The incident occurred outside the Roundtable Bar on Home Avenue in Xenia. According to court records, a fight broke out between Scoby and another man, later identified as Brad A. Stewart, 32, from Jamestown. The altercation escalated when Stewart pulled out a handgun and shot Scoby in the face.
Despite immediate medical attention, Scoby was pronounced dead at Kettering Health Greene Memorial Hospital.
Stewart fled the scene in a red truck, taking the keys from a witness. He was later arrested after a brief chase that ended in the 2500 block of Wilberforce-Clifton Road. Stewart faced charges of murder, felonious assault, and having weapons under disability as a convicted felon. The Greene County Prosecutor’s Office revealed that Stewart had told a witness he wanted to harm Scoby before the shooting. Stewart was found guilty of aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, felonious assault, tampering with evidence, and failure to comply with the signal of a police officer.
The investigation and subsequent trial highlighted the exceptional police work of the Xenia Police Division, particularly Detective Doug Sparks. The jury’s verdict brought some measure of justice for Scoby’s loved ones, ensuring that Stewart would be held accountable for his actions. A sentencing date has not yet been set by the court.
