Dermahni Aneil Hoston, a 21-year-old Black male, tragically lost his life on September 1, 2022, in Columbus, Ohio. He was fatally shot in the 6000 block of North Hamilton Road, just before midnight. Despite the immediate lifesaving measures taken by the officers on the scene, Hoston succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 12:14 a.m.
The incident occurred outside Pastimes Pub & Grill, where Hoston and another individual were shot.
The other victim, a 25-year-old man, was taken to Mount Carmel East Hospital in critical condition but later upgraded to stable. Police identified Torodd Carter, a 27-year-old man, as the suspect in the shooting. Carter turned himself in to the police the following day and was charged with murder and felonious assault.
As of now, the case remains under investigation by the Columbus Police Department, and Carter's arraignment is scheduled. The community has expressed concerns about safety and the need for increased police presence in the area. Hoston's death marked the 90th homicide in Columbus for the year 2022.
