Adrian Hardy, a 25-year-old man from Columbus, OH, was tragically killed on October 19, 2020, at Donerick's Pub on East Broad Street. Hardy was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering a gunshot wound to the head. Another victim, Cheniqua Barton, 28, was critically injured but survived after undergoing emergency surgery.
The investigation led to the arrest of Shawn Maurice Mapp Jr., 36, who was identified as the shooter. Witnesses reported that Mapp walked into the pub, went out to the back porch, and shot Hardy and Barton before calmly walking back inside and leaving the establishment. Surveillance video from the pub showed that Mapp and Hardy knew each other and may have been involved in a dispute prior to the shooting.
Mapp was charged with aggravated murder, murder, attempted murder, and felonious assault. During the trial, Barton identified Mapp as the shooter, and he was found guilty on all counts. In November 2022, Mapp was sentenced to 50 years to life in prison, with the possibility of parole when he is in his 80s.
