On September 6, 2022, 16-year-old Andre Wells, a student at James Ford Rhodes High School in Cleveland, OH, was fatally shot in the head near the school. Andre was walking to school when a red and black vehicle drove past him and someone inside the vehicle fired a gun, striking him in the head. He was immediately transported to MetroHealth Medical Center in critical condition but tragically passed away three days later.
The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m.
near the 5100 block of Stickney Avenue. Andre was standing on the sidewalk with two other teenagers, a 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl, who were not injured. The suspect vehicle was later recovered by the police, but no arrests have been made as of yet. The investigation is ongoing, and the Cleveland Division of Police has taken over the case from the Second District Detective Bureau.
Authorities have identified three male suspects believed to have been driving the vehicle involved in the shooting. The investigation remains active, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Cleveland Division of Police or Crimestoppers. A cash reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
The tragic death of Andre Wells has deeply affected the community, and the Cleveland Metropolitan School District has put extra supports in place to help students cope with the loss of their classmate.
