Mark A. Conner, a 22-year-old male, served as the Chief of Police for the Windsor Police Department in North Carolina. On October 24, 1910, Chief Conner was fatally shot while attempting to arrest a 17-year-old youth. The incident occurred at a home located about one mile outside of town near Sandy Point. When Chief Conner went to the front door, he was informed that the suspect was not home. Despite this, Chief Conner pushed open the door and was shot in the chest by the suspect.
The suspect then took his own life.
Chief Conner was survived by his wife and child. The suspect, a young male, was believed to have drawn a pistol on a man, prompting Chief Conner and three other men to go to the suspect's home. The tragic event led to the death of Chief Conner, who was highly respected for his service and sacrifice for the citizens of Windsor.
There were no further arrests, suspects, litigations, or investigations related to Chief Conner's death, as the suspect committed suicide immediately after the shooting. The case was resolved with the suspect's death, and no additional legal actions were taken.
