Cherica Louvenia Adams, a 24-year-old African American woman, tragically lost her life on December 14, 1999, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Cherica was eight months pregnant at the time of her death. She was ambushed and shot multiple times while driving home after a movie date with her on-and-off boyfriend, Rae Theotis Carruth, a wide receiver for the NFL's Carolina Panthers.
