Ebony Chantelle Robinson, a 21-year-old African American woman, tragically lost her life on December 7, 2007. Her body was discovered along Wrenn Road in Orange County, North Carolina, near the Durham County line. Ebony, who was affectionately known as "Smiley," was a star athlete at Durham School of the Arts and a former student at North Carolina Central University.
She was also expecting a baby boy in January 2008.
The investigation into Ebony's death revealed that she had been shot and left lying in leaves along the dirt road. Authorities quickly identified Kenneth Earl White, a 39-year-old man from Durham, as a suspect. White, who lived on the same street as Ebony, was arrested the day after her body was found. He was charged with first-degree murder for the fatal shooting of his pregnant girlfriend. Investigators disclosed that White had threatened Ebony when he discovered she was pregnant.
White pleaded guilty to first-degree murder on October 28, 2008. The case highlighted the tragic circumstances surrounding Ebony's death and the swift action taken by law enforcement to bring her killer to justice. The community mourned the loss of a young woman who had a bright future ahead of her and was on the verge of becoming a mother.
