She was well-loved by her colleagues and students, known for her positive and uplifting spirit. Abby's dedication to education and her community was evident in her involvement in various school activities and her role as a Sunday school teacher at Bethlehem
Baptist Church.
On the day of her death, Moore County authorities received a report of a shooting at Abby's residence on 333 Baughn Trail. Upon arrival, they found Abby dead from a gunshot wound to the head. Her husband, Randy Martin Baughn, a 38-year-old white male, was arrested and charged with her murder. Randy was held without bond in the Moore County Detention Center, with his first court appearance scheduled for June 1.
Randy Baughn claimed that the shooting was accidental, stating that Abby had been moving his gun when it accidentally discharged. However, investigators did not release any information about a possible motive for the shooting. The community was left in shock, as Abby was a beloved figure who had touched the lives of many individuals.
