On September 27, 2010, in Burnsville, North Carolina, 56-year-old Lila Marie Davis was fatally shot twice in the chest by her boyfriend, 75-year-old Charles Harrison Bennett. The incident occurred following a disagreement between the couple regarding their relationship. After the shooting, Bennett drove to a nearby fishing pond, where he took his own life. Authorities ruled the case as a murder-suicide.
