Killian Samuel Perez, a 4-year-old boy from Fayetteville, North Carolina, tragically passed away on November 16, 2013. Killian, the beloved child of Jeff Perez and Elizabeth "Liz" Brazil Perez, was born on July 22, 2009. He was a vibrant and energetic child who touched the hearts of many. On the day of his death, Killian found a loaded handgun on top of the family's refrigerator and accidentally shot himself. Despite his father's frantic efforts to save him, Killian was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident led to the arrest of Killian's father, 32-year-old Jeffrey David Perez, who was charged with involuntary manslaughter and failure to secure a firearm. At the time of the incident, Jeffrey Perez was home alone with Killian and two twin babies while Liz Perez was visiting a family member in Durham. Jeffrey Perez, a soldier stationed at Fort Bragg, was released on his own recognizance after being taken to the Cumberland County Detention Center.
