Marcus Rashad Owens, a 26-year-old African American male, was tragically shot and killed on February 18, 2014, at a pool hall on South Saunders Street in Raleigh, North Carolina. The incident occurred shortly before midnight at Bar and Billiards, following a verbal altercation. Owens sustained serious injuries from the shooting and succumbed to his wounds late Friday, February 21, 2014.
Raleigh police launched an investigation and quickly identified two suspects: Dudley Lamar Kee, 29,
and James Keith Nelson, 23. Both men were charged with murder in connection with Owens' death. Kee and Nelson were apprehended and faced legal proceedings for their involvement in the crime. Kee pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in Wake County Superior Court on July 7, 2015. He was scheduled to be sentenced the following day.
