Roy Jacob Bryant, a 23-year-old male from Salisbury, NC, tragically lost his life on June 9, 2014. The incident occurred in the 5200 block of Woodleaf Road, where Bryant was fatally shot by his cousin, Timothy Scott Glover, who was 22 years old at the time. The two cousins had been drinking liquor when Glover, who was impaired, accidentally discharged a sawed-off 20 gauge shotgun, striking Bryant in the abdomen.
Despite being rushed to Rowan Regional Medical Center, Bryant succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
The investigation revealed that the weapon initially reported to have been involved was a .410 shotgun, but it was later determined to be a sawed-off 20 gauge shotgun, which is considered an illegal weapon. Authorities recovered the shotgun and confirmed that Glover was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. The case was presented to the District Attorney's Office, and Glover was subsequently charged with felony involuntary manslaughter and felony possession of a weapon of mass death and destruction.
Glover surrendered himself to the Sheriff's Office for the service of the warrants. The tragic event was deemed an accident, but the presence of alcohol and an illegal weapon led to the serious charges against Glover. The case highlights the dangers of mixing alcohol with firearms and the severe consequences that can arise from such situations.
