Lynn Tyjuan Clanton, a 30-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on July 4, 2014, in Garysburg, North Carolina. Clanton, affectionately known as "Tweety," was found lying on his back in the street near Poplar Street and Turner's Store, off Highway 301. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation revealed that at least five shots were fired from a weapon of undisclosed caliber, and casings were collected at the scene.
Clanton's death was a significant loss to
his family and community. He was described as a respectful and humble person who always helped his family and others. He was a father to two children, Jay'Lynn Clanton and I'Jaylah Clanton, and was known for his dedication to his family. Despite his positive attributes, Clanton's life was cut short in a senseless act of violence.
The Garysburg police, along with the Northampton County Sheriff's Office, launched an investigation into Clanton's murder. Deputy William James of the Northampton County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene shortly after 1 a.m. on the day of the incident. Town police Chief Melvin Garner stated that there were no suspect descriptions or known motives at the time, and it was believed that Clanton was in the wrong place at the wrong time. The assistance from numerous Northampton County investigators and deputies, as well as Sheriff Jack Smith, was appreciated in the investigation.
As of now, there have been no arrests or suspects identified in connection with Clanton's murder. The investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Garysburg police department or the Northampton County Sheriff's Office. Clanton's family and community continue to seek justice for his untimely death.
