Cary Terelle McLean, a 30-year-old African American male, was tragically shot and killed on July 19, 2014, in Spring Lake, North Carolina. The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. at Hall's Mobile Home Park on D Street. McLean was gunned down with an assault-style rifle, leading to a series of arrests and investigations.
The first arrest in connection with McLean's murder was made on July 30, 2014, when detectives apprehended 25-year-old Shante Nicole Ellis at her home.
Ellis, also African American, was charged with felony conspiracy in the murder. The investigation revealed that Ellis had an altercation with McLean hours before his death and allegedly conspired with an acquaintance, Jerri D. Davis, to kill him.
On August 28, 2014, police arrested 23-year-old Shaquan Parker, also known as "Q," at the Victory Chapel Church on Bragg Boulevard. Parker was charged with first-degree murder. Authorities continued their search for Jerri D. Davis, also known as "Tweet," who was wanted on first-degree murder charges and considered armed and dangerous.
The investigation further led to the arrest of 21-year-old Jeffrey Jamal Campbell on November 12, 2014. Campbell, who resided at Brookstone Apartments in Fayetteville, was charged with first-degree murder. During the arrest, police seized two assault-style rifles and about 1,500 rounds of ammunition from Campbell's residence. A white Chevrolet Impala, the same type of vehicle witnesses described fleeing the homicide scene, was also seized.
In total, five individuals were charged in connection with McLean's murder. Alongside Ellis, Parker, and Campbell, 21-year-old Darryl Frederick Brown was also arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Brown was held in the Cumberland County Detention Center with a bail set at $1.5 million.
