Christopher Wayne English, a 39-year-old white male from Nebo, NC, tragically lost his life on June 17, 2015. English was found lying partially in the roadway at the intersection of Pinnacle Church Road and Pinnacle Heights Drive in Nebo. Deputies were en route to a welfare check in Deer Park Gardens when they discovered his body. English had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation into English's death led to the arrest of Jerry Ryan Echols, a 33-year-old white male from Marion, NC. Echols was charged with murder after it was determined that he and English had gotten into an argument, which escalated to Echols shooting English multiple times. Additionally, Joshua Mason Ledbetter, a 24-year-old white male from Nebo, was charged with accessory after the fact of murder. Ledbetter assisted Echols by helping him clean the murder weapon, providing him with ammunition for the firearm, and withholding information from law enforcement.

The case garnered significant attention in the local community, and the legal proceedings were closely followed. The charges against Echols, Hollifield, and Ledbetter highlighted the severity of the crime and the efforts of law enforcement to bring justice to the victim and his family.
