Michael Jerome Pressley, a 28-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on August 9, 2015, in Norlina, North Carolina. Pressley was a resident of 125 Webb Place and passed away at Duke Medical Center in Durham. He was the son of Woodrow Pressley and the late Elder Phyllis Overby. Pressley is survived by his three daughters, Saniyah Thornton, Brielle Richardson, and Makylah Pressley, as well as his father, two brothers, one sister, and his maternal grandmother.
The
circumstances surrounding Pressley's death were violent and tragic. On the night of August 9, 2015, shots were fired into his car near Connect 25, a bar on U.S. Highway 1 in Norlina. Pressley succumbed to his injuries, while another man, Jerry Henderson, 25, of Oxford, sustained bullet wounds in the incident. The shooting led to a significant investigation and subsequent arrests.
Montrell Randy Davis, a 22-year-old male from Warrenton, was arrested outside a convenience store and charged with first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon, five counts of attempted first-degree murder, and two counts of discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle. He was held without bond in the Warren County jail. Arrest warrants were also issued for Kadeem Jaleel Grooms, 23, of Manson, Darren Antoine Alston, 22, of Warrenton, and Marquis Montelle Davis, 24, of Warrenton, on the same charges.
In the years following the incident, Marquis Davis pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill inflicting serious injury in connection with the 2015 murder of Michael Pressley. The case highlights the tragic loss of a young life and the subsequent legal proceedings that sought to bring justice to those responsible for the crime.
