Melvin Hudson "Mel" Boyd, Jr., a 57-year-old white male, passed away on October 26, 2015, in Walstonburg, NC. His death was the result of a tragic hunting accident. Mel was a beloved member of his community, known for his dedication to his faith and his work as a barber. He was actively involved in his church, the Greenville Church of God, where he taught Sunday school, ushered, and supported his pastor and fellow congregants.
Mel's life was marked by his commitment to helping others and
his deep love for his family and friends. He was a mentor to many young people and was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. His sudden death left a void in the lives of those who knew him, and his funeral service was held at the Wilkerson Funeral Chapel, officiated by Rev. Daylon Mooneyham and Rev. Brandon Jones.
There were no arrests, suspects, litigations, murder cases, or investigations related to Mel's death, as it was determined to be an accident. The community mourned the loss of a man who had touched so many lives with his kindness and generosity. Mel was preceded in death by his son, Hudson Collin Boyd, in 2012, and is survived by his parents, Melvin H. and Doris Tetterton Boyd, his sister, Terry Boyd Lancaster, and his brother, Danny Robert Boyd.
