Javarius Deshawn McGee, a 30-year-old African American male, was found dead on December 4, 2015, in Charlotte, NC. He was one of three victims discovered inside a home on China Grove Church Road, all of whom had suffered fatal gunshot wounds. The other victims were Naquavis Aqueece Benson, 29, and Jarvis Mandrell Benson, 28. The tragic incident occurred shortly after a birthday celebration for McGee, who had just turned 30 the day before.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department responded to the scene early that Friday morning, but no immediate motive or suspects were identified at the time.
The investigation into the triple homicide revealed that the crime was not a random act of violence but appeared to be drug-related. On January 29, 2016, two suspects were arrested in connection with the murders. Antonio Lafloyd Robinson was apprehended in Lancaster, SC, while Jovon Raymar Twitty was arrested in Charlotte. Both suspects were charged with three counts of murder. The CMPD's investigation indicated that the suspects had targeted the victims, and the crime was linked to drug activities.
In April 2021, Antonio Lafloyd Robinson accepted a plea deal and was sentenced to three to six years in prison for his role in the deadly shootings. He pleaded guilty to three counts of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, a lesser charge than the original three counts of murder. The plea deal was offered due to the unrelated death of a key witness in the case, which significantly impacted the prosecution's ability to secure a conviction on the murder charges.
The families of the victims, including Javarius Deshawn McGee, were left devastated by the loss of their loved ones. The Benson brothers, Naquavis and Jarvis, were remembered as warm, family-oriented men who were deeply missed by their relatives. Naquavis was close to graduating from the Art Institute of Charlotte in Culinary Arts and was a father to two girls. Jarvis had two children and another on the way at the time of his death. The senseless violence that claimed the lives of these three men left a lasting impact on their families and the community.
