Nijah Daejour Jones, a 19-year-old African American male, was tragically shot and killed on April 8, 2016, in Greensboro, North Carolina. The incident occurred at an apartment located at 4610 Brompton Drive around 1:05 p.m. Nijah and his friend, Corleon Andre Augustine, also 19 years old, were planning to eat pizza when an argument between them escalated, resulting in Augustine fatally shooting Nijah in the head.
Following the shooting, a friend of Nijah's called 911 to report the incident, stating that someone had come into the house and shot Nijah in the head. Nijah was pronounced dead at the scene. Corleon Andre Augustine, who had an outstanding warrant for assault, was apprehended on Hewlett Street near Merritt Drive without incident and was charged with first-degree murder.
The case drew significant attention due to the young age of both the victim and the suspect, as well as the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Nijah's death was a devastating loss for his family and the community, and it highlighted the tragic consequences of gun violence among young people. Augustine was held in the Guilford County Jail without bond as the investigation continued.
