Jonathan David Griffin, a 55-year-old white male from Burlington, NC, tragically passed away on November 25, 2016. He was found deceased from apparent gunshot wounds at his residence on Burch Bridge Road. The incident occurred during a domestic altercation involving his girlfriend and a juvenile relative of the girlfriend. The juvenile, whose identity has not been disclosed due to their age, allegedly shot Griffin during the altercation.
Following the incident, the juvenile was taken into custody and placed at the Guilford County Juvenile Detention Center pending a detention hearing. The Alamance County District Attorney's Office and the Alamance County Department of Social Services were notified and are reviewing the case.
Griffin was a native of Danville, VA, and a graduate of Hargrave Military Academy. He served as a veteran and paratrooper for the U.S. Army and later worked as a sales consultant. He was a member of New Life at Hocutt Church and had a lifelong love of fishing. Griffin is survived by his father, Julian Parks Griffin, two daughters, McKenna Griffin Beddingfield and Madeleine Anne Griffin, and two sisters, Patti Griffin Hope and Rebecca Griffin Jones. He was preceded in death by his mother, Becky JoAnn Bailey Griffin, a sister, Kathryn Griffin Tucker, and a nephew, Christopher Brian Hope.
The investigation into Griffin's death is ongoing, with the Alamance County Sheriff's Office leading the efforts. The juvenile suspect's case is under review by the District Attorney's Office, and further legal proceedings are expected. The community has been deeply affected by this tragic event, and Griffin's family and friends continue to mourn his loss.
