On February 24, 2017, Bryan Ja'Quan Thompson, a 22-year-old African American male, was fatally shot in Charlotte, North Carolina. The incident occurred on Yorkdale Drive, where officers discovered two individuals with gunshot wounds. A third victim, also wounded, was located on Spring Creek Lane after fleeing the scene. Bryan Thompson succumbed to his injuries, while the other two victims survived.
Following an investigation, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested 30-year-old Robert Wilson Driver in connection with the shootings. Initially detained on an unrelated warrant, Driver was subsequently charged with the murder of Bryan Thompson and the shootings of the other two men. Authorities did not immediately disclose a motive for the attack.
On March 5, 2020, Robert Driver was convicted of the 2017 murder of Bryan Thompson and the shootings of the two other men. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Bryan Ja'Quan Thompson's death is remembered by the community, with 91 candles lit in his honor on a memorial website.
