The driver of the vehicle, 26-year-old Leo Cortez Johnson, reported that an unknown vehicle fired multiple rounds into his 2007 Acura. Jasmine was struck by the gunfire and was immediately taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Jasmine Monique Street was born on December 24, 1996, in Sanford, North Carolina, to Kimberly Street and Stacy Judd. She was a 2015 graduate of Western Harnett High School in Lillington, North Carolina, and later attended Central Carolina Community College to pursue an associate degree in cosmetology. Jasmine was known for her beautiful smile and her love for styling hair. She was employed at various places, including KFC, Wendy's, and Sykes Communications.
The investigation into Jasmine's death led to the arrest of Earl Clarence Avant III, a 28-year-old man from Fayetteville. Avant was charged with first-degree murder, discharging a weapon into occupied property causing serious bodily injury, discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle, and discharging a weapon into occupied property. He was held without bond in the Cumberland County jail. The shooting remains under investigation, and authorities have encouraged anyone with information to come forward.
