Reggie Copeland, a 49-year-old male from Lumberton, North Carolina, passed away on October 30, 2017. He was born on July 8, 1968, in Robeson County and was a graduate of Lumberton High School, where he served three years in JROTC. Upon graduation, he went on to serve three years in the National Guard. Reggie was preceded in death by his mother and is survived by his father, Junior Darrel Copeland, his stepmother, Linda Copeland, his brother, Thuron Keith Copeland, and other family members.
Reggie Copeland was shot on Carolina Avenue in Lumberton. After being shot, he managed to run to a house on Jerome Street, where he informed the occupants that he had been shot before collapsing. He was then taken to Southeastern Regional Medical Center, where he later died.
A warrant for first-degree murder was issued for Milot Petion Jr., a 19-year-old resident of Lumberton, in connection with the shooting of Reggie Copeland. Petion was arrested and charged with the murder. He is currently being held at the Robeson County Detention Center without bond.
