Donnie Laquan Finney, a 27-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on March 13, 2018, in Garner, North Carolina. The incident occurred around 6:20 p.m. in the 200 block of Johnson Street. Finney, who had recently moved to Garner from New Jersey and worked as a corrections officer, was shot during a dispute over a parking space. He was taken to WakeMed for treatment of a gunshot wound to his mid-section but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries later that night.
