Francisco Altamirano, a 34-year-old male of Mexican descent, was found dead on March 26, 2018, in Franklin, North Carolina. His body, along with that of his 39-year-old brother Diego Altamirano, was discovered in the bed of a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado truck that had been abandoned on Jack Cabe Road. The truck bed was covered, concealing the bodies. Both brothers had gunshot wounds, but the official cause of death was pending autopsy results.
The Altamirano brothers were reported missing
by their family after they failed to return home from a planned trip to Westminster, South Carolina, where they were supposed to attend a party. It was later revealed that they had intended to grab drinks in Sylva, Waynesville, or possibly Franklin on the night of their disappearance. Receipts found in the truck indicated that they had purchased items, including Tecate beer.
The Macon County Sheriff's Office, along with the State Bureau of Investigation , launched an investigation into the homicides. The bodies and the vehicle were taken to an evidence and processing building for examination. Despite the efforts of law enforcement, no arrests or suspects have been publicly identified in connection with the murders of Francisco and Diego Altamirano.
