Diego Altamirano, a 39-year-old male of Mexican descent, was found dead on March 26, 2018, in Franklin, North Carolina. His body, along with that of his 34-year-old brother Francisco Altamirano, was discovered in the bed of a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado truck that had been abandoned on Jack Cabe Road. The truck bed had a cover over it, concealing the bodies.
Both brothers had gunshot wounds, but the official cause of death could not be determined until the autopsies were completed.
The Altamirano brothers were reported missing by their family after they failed to return home on Monday. They were last known to be heading to Westminster, South Carolina, to attend a party on Saturday night. However, it was later learned that they planned to grab drinks in either Sylva, Waynesville, or possibly Franklin. Family members reported them missing after learning they had not gone to South Carolina.
The Macon County Sheriff's Office, along with the State Bureau of Investigation , responded to the scene to investigate the deaths. The bodies and the vehicle were taken to the evidence and processing building for examination. The sheriff's office detectives and SBI agents are seeking the public's help in solving this homicide case. They have asked anyone with information related to the case to contact them.
As of now, there have been no arrests, suspects, or litigations reported in connection with the deaths of Diego and Francisco Altamirano. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are continuing to gather information and leads to solve the case.
