Erica and her five children were shot by her boyfriend, Maurice Garner, in a horrific act of violence. The incident occurred at their home on Hansel Avenue in West Asheville. Erica's 15-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter were also killed in the shooting, while her three younger boys were injured but survived. The 911 call was made by Erica's 10-year-old son, who had been grazed by bullets. His 8-year-old brother was also grazed, and a 12-year-old boy was shot in the leg.
