Terale Claridy-Vaught, an 18-year-old African American male, was tragically killed on June 3, 2018, in Charlotte, North Carolina. The incident occurred on Carolina Forest Road, where officers were initially investigating a shooting into an occupied dwelling. While on the scene, they heard additional gunshots nearby and discovered Terale with apparent gunshot wounds in the roadway.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation quickly led to the arrest of two teenagers, Jalen Boulware and Marvin Chavez-Quiffaro, both 18 years old at the time. Jalen Boulware was charged with murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied property, while Marvin Chavez-Quiffaro was charged with accessory after the fact to murder. The suspects voluntarily turned themselves in to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and were subsequently arrested following interviews with detectives.
In March 2022, Jalen Boulware, now 22, pled guilty to second-degree murder in connection with Terale's death. He was sentenced to 130-168 months in prison. During the trial, Jalen filed a motion to suppress a statement used as evidence in his case, but he ultimately decided to enter a guilty plea before the motion was heard in court.
The tragic death of Terale Claridy-Vaught highlights the devastating impact of gun violence on young lives and the importance of addressing this issue within communities. Terale was remembered by friends and family as a kind and generous individual who brought joy to those around him.
