On the evening of January 16, 2019, Granite Falls Police and Emergency Responders were dispatched to a location on Falls Avenue
following a 911 call reporting a shooting incident. Upon arrival, they found Cal Culver Bills with a single gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A female, who was present at the time of the incident, informed the officers that Cal had accidentally shot himself. She was also the one who made the 911 call.
The Granite Falls Police Department, in collaboration with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, launched an investigation into the incident.
