Born on February 3, 1973, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Alvin Lewis Davis and Mary Ellen Keller Davis Allen. Timothy's death occurred at his residence, and he was survived by his mother, step-mother, siblings, and children.
On the night of January 14, 2022, Caldwell County Sheriff's deputies responded to an unknown trouble call at Terrapin Ridge Lane in
Granite Falls. Upon arrival, they encountered a male subject armed with a gun and knife, holding two women hostage. The armed individual, identified as 56-year-old Troy Lee Carter, refused to obey the deputies' verbal commands, leading to an officer-involved shooting. Carter was pronounced dead at the scene.
During the search of the property, deputies discovered Timothy Lewis Davis, who had suffered both gunshot and stab wounds. Davis, who was a resident at the location, was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation revealed that Troy Lee Carter had attacked Timothy Lewis Davis before the deputies arrived. At the time of the incident, Carter was wanted for two counts of domestic criminal trespassing, one count of injury to real property, and one count of second-degree arson for previous incidents at the same location.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation took over the case, and body cam footage from the deputies involved was turned over as part of the investigation. The deputies involved were placed on paid administrative leave pending review by the District Attorney's Office.
