On that fateful day, Carolyn was driving a black Nissan with two passengers when she got into a minor collision with another motorist. She drove away from the scene, but the other driver, who was in a light blue Hyundai, pursued her.
Less than a mile later, the driver blocked her car, retrieved a rifle from his trunk, and opened fire on her vehicle. Carolyn was shot twice in the head and later succumbed to her injuries at Moses Cone Hospital. Her two-year-old son and a 14-year-old family friend, who were also in the car, were unharmed.
