Siojvon D'Nitra Joseph, a 35-year-old African American woman, tragically passed away on January 11, 2020, in Charlotte, North Carolina. Siojvon, affectionately known as "Mookie" to her family and friends, was a beloved member of her community. She was born on August 23, 1984, and was the daughter of Donald McGwan and the late Beverly Denise Joseph.
Siojvon was a dedicated individual who pursued her education at South Eastern Medical Institution, earning her certification as a CNA Medical Technician and in Therapeutic Foster Care in Mecklenburg County. She was employed with Walton Woods Assisted Living and was an active member of the Garden of Prayer Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir.
On the morning of January 11, 2020, Siojvon Joseph and her boyfriend, Asa Shannon, were found dead inside their vehicle on Atando Avenue in west Charlotte. The couple had been shot to death, and their vehicle was discovered down an embankment by a concerned citizen who alerted the authorities. The police arrived at the scene and found the bodies of Siojvon and Asa inside the SUV.
The investigation into the double murder led to the arrest of Everett Connor, a 32-year-old man, who was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of armed robbery, two counts of first-degree kidnapping, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and felony breaking and entering. The arrest was the result of a collaborative effort between the Police Firearms Unit, the Police Gang Unit, the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team, the ATF, and the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Department. Further investigation revealed that two other men, Terry Connor, 33, and Steven Staples, 30, were also charged in connection with the murders of Siojvon Joseph and Asa Shannon.
The tragic deaths of Siojvon Joseph and Asa Shannon shocked the Charlotte community, and their families and friends continue to mourn their loss. The legal proceedings against the suspects are ongoing, and the community hopes for justice to be served for the senseless loss of two lives.
