Dayshawn Montez Jones, a 27-year-old African American male, was found with gunshot wounds in the driveway of a home on Walton Street in Durham, North Carolina, on January 20, 2020. He was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The incident began with a confrontation between Jones and another male inside the residence.
The second male, identified as Stacey Lemar Breeze, a 31-year-old African American male from Hillsborough, North Carolina, was later found deceased inside the home from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The Durham Police Department responded to a shooting call at the residence shortly after 5 a.m. Upon arrival, they found Jones in the driveway and Breeze barricaded inside the home. After an hour-long standoff, police entered the residence and discovered Breeze's body. The police believe the incident was a murder-suicide, with Breeze shooting Jones before taking his own life.
The investigation revealed that the two men knew each other, and there were no other suspects involved. The police are not actively pursuing any additional suspects, and there is no further danger to the public.
