On the morning of January 22, 2020, Andrew Myers waited in his pickup truck outside Alaina Myers' residence. When Tyler Hamilton stepped out of the house, Myers approached him and fired a single shot from a shotgun, striking Hamilton in the head and killing him instantly. After the shooting, Myers entered the house, confronted his estranged wife, and then turned the gun on himself, ending his own life.
The Granite Quarry Police Department and Rowan County Sheriff's Office conducted an investigation into the incident. Police Chief Mark Cook stated that the shooting appeared to be the result of a domestic situation that escalated tragically. Several 911 calls were made reporting gunshots, and officers arrived at the scene within minutes, finding both men deceased from gunshot wounds.
