James Royal, a 25-year-old man from Snow Hill, North Carolina, was tragically shot to death on February 3, 2020. The incident occurred near his home on Brook Meadow Drive during an altercation. The Greene County Sheriff's Office, led by Sheriff Lemmie Smith, conducted an investigation in collaboration with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation . Through interviews and other evidence, they were able to identify and arrest Marqice Grant, a 27-year-old man, in connection with the murder.
