Maleek Bowman, a 17-year-old African American male, tragically lost his life on February 15, 2020, in Grimesland, North Carolina. The incident occurred at the Silverado Mobile Home Park, where deputies from the Pitt County Sheriff's Office responded to reports of multiple shots fired around 10:51 p.m. Upon arrival, they found Maleek Bowman suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg. Despite the deputies' efforts to provide first aid and apply a tourniquet, Bowman was transported to Vidant Hospital in Greenville, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The following day, 27-year-old Nathaniel Edward Rembert was arrested and charged with murder in connection with Maleek Bowman's death. Rembert, also from Grimesland, was taken into custody and held at the Pitt County Detention Center without bond. The case remains under investigation, with authorities urging anyone with information to come forward.
Rembert made his first court appearance on February 17, 2020, where he requested a court-appointed attorney. His bond was set at $2 million, and his next court date was scheduled for March 4, 2020.
