On August 10, 2020, at approximately 8:14 a.m., Matthews officers responded to the 2700 block of Lakeview Circle regarding a report of an abandoned vehicle. Upon their arrival, the vehicle in question was located, and after further investigation of the surrounding area, officers discovered a deceased male on the shoulder of the road near this vehicle. The man was identified as Cory DeShawn Carpenter, a 27-year-old African American male from Charlotte.
