Daniel Christopher Sulton, a 36-year-old man from Fayetteville, North Carolina, was tragically killed on May 15, 2021. The incident occurred just before 11:10 p.m. in the 3000-block of Spearfish Drive in the Taylor’s Creek neighborhood. Responding deputies found Sulton suffering from a gunshot wound at the scene. He was transported to the hospital where he later died.
The investigation into Sulton's death led to the identification of three suspects: Jaylin Maleek Bailey Murphy, 26, of
Reidsville; Jeremy Miller, 20, of Gibsonville; and Jermaine Miller, 20, of Gibsonville. The authorities believe that the person responsible for the shooting was driving a white 2009-2013 Nissan Altima.
Jeremy Miller was found by Fayetteville police at 1 a.m. in a Nissan Altima at Mazarick Park. He was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder, felony conspiracy, and robbery with a dangerous weapon. Jermaine Miller turned himself into the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and was charged with first-degree murder, felony conspiracy, and common law robbery. Both brothers are being held without bond.
Jaylin Maleek Bailey Murphy was considered to be on the run before turning himself in around 4:50 p.m. on July 2, 2021. He is currently being held without bond at the Cumberland County Detention Center and is charged with first-degree murder, felony conspiracy, and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
The motive behind the shooting was determined to be robbery. The investigation is ongoing, and homicide detectives are seeking information from anyone who may have knowledge about the case.
