Pamela Alice Moses, a 50-year-old woman from Connelly Springs, North Carolina, tragically lost her life on August 18, 2021. The incident occurred at approximately 2:45 p.m. when the Burke County Sheriff’s Office received a call reporting multiple shots fired at an address on Coldwater Street in Connelly Springs. Upon arrival, deputies discovered Pamela Moses outside her home with probable gunshot wounds.
Despite the efforts of Burke County EMS, she was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The investigation quickly identified Johnny Everette Setzer, a 50-year-old man from Spain Hill Road in Icard, as the primary suspect. Witnesses at the scene pointed to Setzer as the individual responsible for the shooting. Burke County Investigators, who were already familiar with Setzer due to his involvement in other criminal activities, encountered him near the scene driving a vehicle. A chase ensued, ending on Duncan Street in Connelly Springs, where Setzer abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. He was eventually apprehended by deputies following a foot chase and transported to a hospital for observation.
Setzer was subsequently indicted on a charge of first-degree murder in connection with the death of Pamela Moses. In addition to the murder charge, he faced multiple other charges, including being an habitual felon, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and second-degree trespassing. Prior to the fatal shooting, Setzer had been under investigation for various crimes, including larceny and possession of a stolen vehicle, as well as the larceny of several firearms. He had also been arrested on August 16 for disturbing citizens while reportedly being intoxicated.
Pamela Alice Moses, who was born on July 25, 1971, had previously been involved in legal issues herself. In February 2019, NC Probation and Parole Officers, along with Burke County Sheriff’s Office deputies, conducted an investigation at her residence on Coldwater Street, resulting in the seizure of methamphetamine and marijuana. Despite her past, the circumstances surrounding her death were tragic and led to a significant legal case against Johnny Everette Setzer, who remains in jail without bond, awaiting further court proceedings.
