Christian Mbimba, a 21-year-old male of African American ethnicity from Nashville, Tennessee, was found dead in Greensboro, North Carolina, on September 3, 2021. The Greensboro Police Department responded to the 2800 block of Patterson Street around 11:03 a.m. and determined the death to be suspicious, subsequently investigating it as a homicide.
The investigation led to the identification of Malek Anthony Moore, 29, as a suspect.
Moore was considered armed and extremely dangerous and was wanted for first-degree murder in connection with Mbimba's death. He was also linked to another murder in Charlotte, North Carolina, and was arrested on East Market Street in Greensboro on September 9, 2021. Moore had a criminal history that included theft and breaking and entering, and he had recently been released from prison and was on parole at the time of the alleged killings.
The case drew significant attention from law enforcement, including the FBI, which joined the search for Moore. Despite the arrests and charges, there was no immediate indication of a personal connection between Mbimba and Moore. The investigation continued as authorities sought to gather more information and build a case against Moore.
Mbimba's family expressed their grief and planned to share funeral arrangements publicly once they were made. The community was urged to come forward with any information related to the case, and tips could be submitted anonymously to Greensboro/Guilford Crime Stoppers.
The tragic death of Christian Mbimba and the subsequent investigation highlighted the challenges faced by law enforcement in addressing violent crimes and bringing perpetrators to justice.
