Nicoda Melvin, a 21-year-old African American woman from Fayetteville, NC, was tragically shot and killed on September 19, 2021. The incident occurred at the home she shared with her boyfriend, Travis Edward Jefferson, on Southern Avenue. According to reports, Nicoda was shot in the head by Jefferson, who was subsequently charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon.
Jefferson, 27, remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.
The tragedy did not end with Nicoda's death. Just three days later, on September 22, 2021, her brother Marquez Melvin, 19, and their cousin Konye Melvin, 16, were also shot and killed during a home invasion on Charlie Drive in Fayetteville. The home invasion left another brother, Maurice Melvin, 19, critically injured. The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office is investigating the home invasion, while the Fayetteville Police Department is handling the investigation into Nicoda's murder.
The family of Nicoda, Marquez, and Konye Melvin is seeking answers and justice for their loved ones. The connection between the two incidents remains unclear, but the family suspects that the person responsible for Nicoda's death may also be involved in the subsequent shootings.
