Bridget Lee Stratton, a 46-year-old woman from Hubert, NC, passed away on February 6, 2022, at Vidant Medical Center. Bridget, a native of Bennington, VT, was a homemaker who loved cooking and decorating cakes for friends and family. She is survived by her seven children and three grandchildren, as well as her mother, siblings, and numerous nieces and nephews. Bridget was preceded in death by her father and several other family members. A visitation was held on February 19, 2022, at Hanson Walbridge & Shea Funeral Home in Bennington.
The circumstances surrounding Bridget Lee Stratton's death were tragic. On January 28, 2022, Bridget and another individual, Seth Morrow, were shot at a home on Quail Trail in Hubert. Initially, both victims were expected to make a full recovery, but Bridget succumbed to her injuries on February 6, 2022. The shooting incident occurred after John McCoy II, a 55-year-old man and roommate of both victims, confronted them about a damaged go-cart. An altercation ensued inside the residence, leading to the shooting.
John McCoy II was arrested on January 28, 2022, and initially charged with two counts of felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill causing serious injury and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. Following Bridget's death, McCoy's charges were upgraded to include felony murder. He remains in custody without bond at the Onslow County Detention Center. The investigation revealed that the altercation and subsequent shooting were triggered by the damaged go-cart, and all three individuals involved were roommates at the time of the incident.
